In this week’s Hip-Hop and R&B charts, Lil’ Wayne position holds steady, Nas hangs on to Top 10, and G-Unit suffers another loss.
After reaching the double platinum mark last week, Lil’Wayne’s run at “3 millie” gets off to a start. According to Nielsen Soundscan Weezy’s sixth studio album Tha Carter III, remains at No. 5 on top of Billboard 200. With the release of the third single “Get Money” featuring his auto-tune partner, T-Pain the ubiquitous set shifted 80,000 units. In eight weeks, Young Moola’s double platinum set has moved 2,100,000 units.
Nas’ controversial ninth studio album Untitled narrowly stays in the Top 10, dropping down two spots to No. 10. Impacted with a 35% decline in sales, the revolutionary LP shifted 41,000 copies this week. Untitled is charged by the Polow da Don produced and Keri Hilson assisted lead single, “Hero,” and FOX news network diss track “Sly Fox.” After three weeks, the Queensbridge MC set has sold 290,000 units.
Rihanna’s re-release of her third studio album Good Girls Gone Bad, slides down on notch to No. 12. Despite the fall in standing, the album experienced a 2% increase in sales, moving 34,000 units this week. The repackaged disc comes with three additional tracks, on top of her smash hits including the Grammy award winning “Umbrella,” and her latest gem “Take A Bow.” After 61 weeks, the Def Jam Records set has shifted 1,551,000 copies.
British crooner, Leona Lewis’ debut album Spirit remains at No. 19. The hummingbird’s set experienced a 3% decline in sales, pushing 21,000 copies this week. In 17 weeks, Lewis’s certified gold debut is nearing the platinum mark with 951,000 units sold.
Usher’s sixth studio album Here I Stand dives six positions to No. 24. Enduring a 22% decrease in sales, the set moved 18,000 copies this week. With no new chart topping banger to speak of, the album continues to be powered by the hit lead single “Love In This Club” featuring Young Jeezy. Regardless of the current struggles the certified gold set has sold an impressive 949,000 units and should top the platinum plateau very soon.
With his name in midst of constant beef rumors, Plies continues to sell records. Coming at No. 29 (two spots down from last week) the self-professed “goon” was able to push 16,000 copies of his sophomore studio album Definition of Real. The Slip-N-Slide/Atlantic Records disc is fueled by the hit single “Bust It Baby Part. 2”featuring Ne-Yo. In eight weeks, Real is approaching gold status with 434,000 copies sold.
Mississippi native, David Banner third studio album The Greatest Story Ever Told, continues it’s descent landing at No. 31 this week. Impacted with a 28% decrease in sales, the rapper/activist set pushed 15,000 units. Powered by the lead single “Get Like Me” featuring Chris Brown and Yung Joc, after three weeks, Banner’s set has a total of 88,000 units sold.
Apparently chewing Doublemint does double the pleasure. On the heels recording a Wrigley’s gum ad teen sensation, Chris Brown has upped his position on the charts. The re-issue of his sophomore album Exclusive climbs five spots to No. 32. Experiencing an 11% increase in sales, C. Breezy’s set shifted 15,000 copies this week. After 39 weeks, the five-time 2008 Teen Choice Award winner, platinum Jive set has amassed 1,725,000 copies.
Oscar winners, Three 6 Mafia’s ninth studio album Last 2 Walk holds steady at No. 33 this week. With a 1% decrease in sales, DJ Paul and Juicy J’s Hypnotize Minds/ Columbia set matched last week sale total of 14,000 units. Marking their first project in three years, in six weeks the duo has sold 185,000 copies.
What was once considered a sophomore jinx has grown into a full-fledged death sentence for G-Unit. second album T.O.S. (Terminate on Sight), continues it’s poor performance descending four notches to No. 38. Impacted with a 16% decline in sales, the album sets a new low with a paltry 12,000 copies sold this week. set pushed only. After five weeks, 50 Cent, Lloyd Banks and Tony Yayo can’t be happy the porous overall number of 185, 000 copies sold.
