Hip Hop Album Sales: The Week Ending 8/24/2008

Make room for the originators! Ice Cube debuts at #5 this week, selling 69,700 copies of Raw Footage. Cube was bested by releases from The Jonas Brothers, Kid Rock, Staind, and the Mamma Mia soundtrack, respectively. Lil Wayne takes the #7 spot this week, selling 56,800 more copies of his double platinum album Tha Carter III. MTV reality stars Shwayze (comprised of rapper Shwayze and guitarist Cisco Adler) debuted their self titled album at #10 this week. The duo sold 46,500 copies. Rihanna's Good Girl Gone Bad continues its reign, this week coming in at #12 with 39,300 copies sold. R&B crooner Lloyd rounds out the top 5 for Hip Hop and R&B at #24 with 15,600 copies sold of Lessons in Love.

Nas holds on to the #25 position with 15,000 copies of his untitled album sold this week, while M.I.A continues to see the effects of her "Paper Planes" exposure in the film Pineapple Express. Kala sold just under 11,000 copies and landed her the #37 spot. Plies' Definition of Real takes #39 with 10,800 sold, as David Banner follows closely behind at #40 selling 10,600 copies of Greatest Story Ever Told. Wu-Tang Clan member GZA debuted ProTools at #52 with just over 9,000 copies sold.
