REED DOLLAZ (THROWBACK FREESTYLE VIDEO OF THE WEEK)

Young Jeezy - Vacation

Top 10 weekend draws at the box office: 8-29-08 To 8-31-08

1. Disaster Movie
This weekend is all about who sucks the least. Or rather who the general public perceives to suck least. Because WE all know this is probably the lead contender for terribleness. The only other possibility for the top slot is Babylon AD which they aren't advertising for. So what can I do?
Estimate: $13.7 million
2. Babylon A.D.
I should get it put in to my contract that I don't have to project anything under $10m. That would give me most of April and August off.
Estimate: $11.5 million
3. Tropic Thunder
I was really pleased to see this win another weekend. But the "victory" only means so much, don't kid yourself, this one is being considered a failure by the studio financially. Which means we've doomed ourselves to more juvenile comedies meant for the lowest common denominator. Yay us!
Estimate: $10.6 million
4. The House Bunny
No one could work up a solid hate for this one. Which sort of makes it good I suppose. I have a more interesting question for ya though; How will Burn After Reading do? Have the Coens made new fans by winning an Oscar?
Estimate: $8.1 million
5. Traitor
Good thing this opened on a Wednesday to get the BUZZ started! Hmm? What's that? You've never heard of it? Oh.
Estimate: $7.2 million
6. College
With the other comedy out there I don't know how a person chooses to imbibe this. I will say that I'm seeing it tomorrow, but only because I get paid to do so.
Estimate: $6.4 million
7. Death Race
This is the other reason I'm skeptical about Babylon A.D.'s chances. This was a big dumb actioner that everyone passed on. Why would Vin Diesel's film be any different?
Estimate: $6.0 million
8. The Dark Knight
Maybe Hollywood read the schedule wrong and thought the NFL started this weekend? Or perhaps they thought the Olympics were going down still? Whatever the case we've clearly been abandoned this weekend. Bastards.
Estimate: $5.6 million
9. Hamlet 2
It's not funny. But I guess it's interesting. So if you're looking for something to say "hmmmm" about this weekend then by all means, check this one OUT.
Estimate: $4.8 million
10. Star Wars: The Clone Wars
I've got this one narrowly beating out Pineapple Express. That is all for now. We'll recap this disastrous weekend come Sunday.
Estimate: $2.5 million

Top 10 weekend draws at the box office: 8-22-08 To 8-24-08

Tropic Thunder overcame a spirited challenge from The House Bunny to win the weekend at the box office, according to studio estimates released on Sunday. The action comedy pulled in about $16.1 million -- a drop of only 38% from last weekend, which is very strong by modern standards. The House Bunny also put in a decent performance, and finished the weekend with an estimated $15.1 million, which is just close enough that it still stands an outside chance of topping the chart when final numbers are released on Monday. Death Race finished a little below expectations with $12.3 million, but that was enough for third place, ahead of The Dark Knight, which earned its last weekend over $10 million, this time with an estimated $10.3 million.

The weekend's other wide openers, The Longshots and The Rocker were both also-rans, with $4.3 million and $2.75 million respectively.

BREAKING NEWS: Comedian Bernie Mac Dies, Age 50

click to comment

Comedian Bernie Mac has died at the age of 50 after an extended bout with pneumonia, according to sources with AllHipHop.com.

Mac was in Northwestern Memorial hospital when he died on Saturday morning. No official cause of death has been announced by his family.

After rumors of his death, his condition seemed to improve. Mac’s publicist stated that he was “responding well to treatment” and that he expected to leave the Chicago-area facility in a few weeks.

The family has reportedly convened at the Mac household.

He passed away at approximately 5:45 am on Saturday, according to sources.

“Bernie Mac will not only be missed by his family members and close friends, he will also be missed by the thousands of people he touch through his laughter. Please keep his family in your prayers,” said Kendra G, a Chicago bred radio host that now resides in Philadelphia.

Mac also lived with sarcoidosis, an immune system disorder that results in swollen, inflamed lymph nodes, causes ulcers on the skin and also makes breathing difficult.

Representatives for Bernie Mac said previously that he was not hospitalized for complications associated with sarcoidosis.

"I've had sarcoidosis since 1983, and it has not altered or limited my lifestyle. No one knows where sarcoidosis comes from or where it starts, and there's no known cause for this condition that effects primarily minorities," Mac said in 2005.

Bernie Mac will be remembered for his brash, but frank comedic style that was a staple in the Black community. His on-stage musings quickly went mainstream through his television sitcom, “The Bernie Mac Show” and a storied music career.

Mac appeared in movies like “Who's the Man?” (1993), “House Party 3” (1994) and “The Walking Dead” (1995), Spike Lee’s Get on the Bus (1996) and 1999’s “Life” with Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence.

The movie of “Ocean's Eleven” (2001) put him in a movie that catered to middle America.

Bernie Mac was born Bernard Jeffrey McCollough in Chicago in 1957. He was reared in a rough neighborhood with a large family that would eventually be the backbone to his comic routine. His professional career started in 1977, when he was 19, and he refused to alter his style to accommodate critics.
